On International Women’s Day 2018 (#IWD2018), #WhatWomen and #WhatGirlsWant is:
- Accountability to ensure that gender equality commitments are translated into sustained and meaningful change
- Consultation to put women and girls at the center of policies, programmes, research, strategies, and initiatives
- Action to include the leadership of women and girls to support the implementation of commitments made by governments and other duty bearers to advance the health and rights of women and girls; allowing us to be at the core of solutions impacting our lives
This International Women’s Day, we are delighted to launch a toolkit for accountability in action, to put women and girls in all of their diversity at the center and to bring a feminist, gender transformative lens across movements, policy development, program implementation, research, and other initiatives.
You can find the toolkit here: #WhatWomenWant: A toolkit for putting accountability into action
Throughout the toolkit, we offer user-friendly examples of effective ways to inform, engage, and foster leadership among women, including young women and adolescent girls, and provide ideas for everyone to take part in meaningful accountability including women themselves, Governments, donors, and policy makers. The toolkit is a living document that will be expanded and updated as we continue to learn, grow together and advance a shared vision emerging from the HIV and SRHR movements through the leadership of young women.
We hope that you will use it, share it, and give us feedback as we continue to build it as our shared advocacy and action evolves. Please join us in conversation via social media and at the upcoming Commission on the Status of Women on 19 March through #WhatWomenWant, #WhatGirlsWant, and @NetworkATHENA.
